Patrons and Supporters

The Minsters Rail Campaign has a number of supporters from many walks of life. Here are some statements from some of our more prominent supporters.

JULIAN STURDY_YORK OUTER_01 Julian Sturdy, MP for York Outer

The campaign to re-establish the Minster to Minster line is one I’m happy to lend my support to. It is an important means of enhancing the social development of our local area, something which is particularly topical at the moment. I wish the campaign every success

Linda McAvan, MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber

Safe, clean, effective public transport makes a real difference to any community. This proposal would not only make life easier for commuters on a daily basis but also benefit the thousands of visitors to York and Beverley every year, helping us to better show off Yorkshire’s great historic sites and beautiful countryside. I very much hope it is successful.

Alan Johnson, MP for Hull West & Hessle

Re-opening this line would not only be good for the economy of Hull, the East Riding and the wider region but would improve the environment and reduce social isolation. I wholeheartedly support this campaign

 graham stuart MP

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness

I have been a supporter of the campaign since its early days and wholeheartedly support its aims. This link should never have been closed in the first place. Re-opening would be fantastic and bring great benefits to my constituents and the wider region.

 diana johnson

Diana Johnson, MP for Hull North

The restoration of this rail route would be a major plus for the quality of life for Hull people. It would also have benefits in developing local tourism and wider regeneration.

 jeremy fletcher

Rev Jeremy Fletcher, former Vicar of Beverley Minster

This is a fantastic idea. Not only would the line help to address issues surrounding social exclusion and regeneration, it would be good for the environment and give an alternative to travelling on the A1079. I wish the campaign well.’

Richard Frith Bishop of Hull Rt Rev Richard Frith, Bishop of Hull

I would be delighted to support your campaign. The potential for such a link to help reduce social exclusion cannot be over stated.

Hugh Bayley, MP for York

Improving public transport in our region will be of enormous benefit to York and the surrounding area. I extend my best wishes to the campaign and its supporters.

RC bish of middle Rt Rev Terence P Drainey, Roman Catholic Bishop of Middlesbrough

I would be greatly honoured to be a supporter of your campaign. ‘What a great achievement to restore this link and how it would improve people’s quality of life and open up so many opportunities.

In 2008 broadcaster Adam Hart-Davis made a film which featured the Minsters Line. In 2012 Adam kindly agreed to become a sponsor of the campaign.

I support the campaign for the Minsters Railway Line, because the A1079 is a fearfully dangerous and busy road, and the train would not only take the strain, but also take passengers through some lovely countryside which they haven’t time to see from the road. What’s more, most of the course of the old line is still there; to build a new one would not be prohibitively expensive – equivalent to a few hundred metres of HS2 or Crossrail.

Minsters Rail Campaign secretary David Pennie has had a letter published in Rail magazine re-inforcing the argument that the Minsters line would act as a second route into Hull should the Humber shoreline route not be available due to flooding.

We are hoping to feature on BBC television on the programme "Inside Out" when MRC member James Wilson will commute into York showing the difficulties he faces.

The cost of postage has meant that reuctanty the MRC has had to increase annual membership to £10. Life membership remains at £50.

Two year mebership is available for £17.50

Once the election is over the MRC plan to hold public meetings at Beverley, Pocklington and Market Weighton to  rise our profile.

Development has started on the site of  our proposed Pocklington station. Short sighted and a step back for the campaign.
